Brett Garneau

Meet Brett, our Senior Project Manager on CY33. Brett has been a superstar in developing CY33 and tackling obstacles on this complex project!

As Project Manager for CY33, what has been the most enjoyable part of working on this project?

Seeing a project come to life towards its final form is very rewarding, but especially for CY33. There were months of designing, planning, budgeting, and negotiating before breaking ground. Once things kicked off, it was 2 years of daily construction challenges. Suddenly the curtains came down and it was just surreal seeing the finished building.

What was the most difficult part of bringing CY33 to life and how have you overcome it?

There are many unique and innovative features throughout the building. To create something special requires a special amount of attention to detail and planning. Without question, everyone who worked on this project, whether tradesperson or consultant, learned a few things along the way. COVID and global supply chain issues sure didn’t help!

Besides the art mural, what is your favourite feature of the courtyard space at CY33?

There is a ton of natural light which is counterintuitive because of the high walls enclosing the space. It’s going to be a great place to hang!

What do you believe makes CY33 a unique building to Marda-loop?

For sure it’s the pedestrian realm experience. At ground level, the commercial frontage is pulled back which creates a wider walking path or even some patio spill over for the restaurants. Walking up into the courtyard is a cool discovery and unlike anything I’ve experienced in Canada.

How does the main floor, consisting of both retail and courtyard space, add to the community?

Every community could use a few more places to eat, shop, and hangout! COVID-quarantine has reinforced the importance of having places to gather and allow for social connection.

What part of the condo designs do you think new tenants will enjoy most?

The skip-stop arrangement is super cool for folks on levels 4 and 6 as they have a dedicated in-suite entry stair. This will provide some additional separation from the common area corridor traffic. I’m also a big fan of the huge angled windows – although difficult to build, they turned out awesome.

What are you most proud of in working on CY33?

Being apart of a small but mighty team who took on an ambitious project and delivered on expectations! Urban infill development is not easy, but when you add on the layers of significant design, multiple market driven ‘pivots’ and outside forces (COVID) it really forces the team to pull tighter together.
